Welcome to Holy Angels School Computer Class
Overview |
Some activities mentioned in this video, such as robotics, are temporarily on hold during hybrid and distance learning.
|
Learning during this pandemic has been challenging but was not interrupted at Holy Angels. Though some of the technology programs are temporarily on hold, students continue to acquire and hone skills that help them cope with distance learning. In fact, the abrupt transition to distance learning was manageable and almost seamless as most of our students were able to keep up with the challenges because they were prepared to navigate their virtual classrooms.
Below you will find some of what students have been doing since the beginning of this school year. Enjoy viewing them and let us know if you have any questions or comments by completing the guest form. We are looking forward to having you become part of our school community.

SAMPLE STUDENT WORK
GRADE SIX
Sixth graders are exploring artificial intelligence by understanding how machine learning works. Their first project was Make Me Happy, a project from Machine Learning for Kids. Watch the video below to learn more about this project.
Sixth graders are currently working on a second machine learning project called Chameleon. In this project, the sixth graders will be training a machine to recognize colors from pictures. Then they will use Scratch to code a chameleon that will change colors depending on the color of its background.
GRADE EIGHT
3D Design and Printing with Tinkercad
Eighth graders have been using Tinkercad for 3D design. Learn how to create in Tinkercad too by watching these how-to tutorials made by the 8th grade class.
Below are more samples of Tinkercad designs the 8th graders made during the holiday season.
GRADE FIVE
Coding with Tynker
Take a math quiz coded by Ryann in Tynker.

SCRATCH CODING
Grades 3
Meet Marco's virtual dog, Mr. Black.
Click the green flag then click Mr. Black for some cool tricks.
Mr. Black is hungry, click the muffin to feed him. He's thirsty, click the glass of water. Don't let Mr. Black's health go down to 0.

Kindergarten and First Grade
Computer class for our youngest students include unplugged coding activities and the use of Scratch Jr and Code.org.
Kindergarteners downloaded the Scratch Jr app on their devices to practice coding activities we do together in class. We learned how to make objects move, say something, hide and appear, shrink and grow. We learned how to make a star twinkle when we created a Christmas scene. We made characters run a race and created animal habitat scenes.
First graders are learning coding basics using the Pre-Reader Express curriculum of code.org. They develop sequential algorithms to move characters from one side of a maze to the other side by stacking code blocks together in linear sequence. We also used Scratch Jr to make a spooky forest and create different animal environments.

Grade 7
The curriculum for seventh grade computers right now is code.org's Computer Science - Animations and Games Unit 3. Seventh graders are building coding experience as they program animations, interactive art, and games in Game Lab. The unit starts off with simple shapes and builds up to more sophisticated sprite-based games, using the same programming concepts and the design process computer scientists use daily. In the final project, students will develop a personalized, interactive program.
Below are sample coding assignments. In this assignment, students were introduced to sprites and uses codes to create a scene.
